New HT32F65C32F/C40F Motor MCU with a three-phase driver for BLDC applications by HOLTEK

Motor-MCU HT32F65C32F/C40F

Motor-MCU HT32F65C32F/C40F: BLDC motors have become very popular for many applications since they offer high efficiency and produce less EMI due to the absence of brushes and a commutator. However, they may have a more complex drive design compared to other types of motors and might require more electronic components for driving them. An answer is the new HT32F65C32F/C40F Motor MCU.

An BLDC motor driver plays an important role in simplifying the application’s design and reducing the costs of additional circuitry. When choosing a BLDC motor driver, it can be helpful to opt for one that includes some of the additional components you might need. For instance, HOLTEK offers a wide range of BLDC Motor Drivers for various applications. Some of them come with integrated 32-bit and 8-bit MCUs.

As a highlight, we now look more in detail on the new HT32F65C32F/C40F Motor MCU with a three-phase driver for BLDC applications.

At a glance: New HT32F65C32F/C40F Motor MCU

More than an Arm® Cortex®-M0+ MCU running with up to 60MHz main clock, both devices integrate an accurate 5 V output LDO. The 32 V 3-channel half-bridge driver with an isolated motor current sensing function is capable of driving three-phase BLDC motors directly due to the 6 integrated MOSFETs.

In addition, some protection features are integrated like under voltage lock-out (UVLO), output short circuit projection (OSP), over temperature protection (OTP) and a FAULT indication output signal to indicate the state of the protection features.

In both devices, a rich set of peripherals can be found. These include a Hardware Divider (DIV), ADC, OPA, CMP, I2C, USART, UART, SPI, MCTM, GPTM, SCTM, BFTM, CRC-16/32, LSTM, WDT, PDMA, SW-DP (Serial Wire Debug Port), among others.

All these features are packed into a single, compact chip available in either a 48-pin LQFP-EP or a 64-pin LQFP-EP – both 7x7mm – package for easy handling in production and reliable soldering.

HT32F65C32F or HT32F65C40F?

The HT32F65C32F differs from the HT32F65C40F in some details. The main differences include:

  • HT32F65C32F: It features a 12-bit SAR ADC with a conversion rate of up to 2 Msps and supports up to 12 external analog input channels. Additionally, it includes one OPA, a Flash memory of 32 KB, and 4 KB of SRAM. It is suitable for 1-Shunt FOC and square wave sensor less applications.
  • HT32F65C40F: It features a 12-bit SAR ADC with a conversion rate of up to 1 Msps and supports up to 8 external analog input channels for each ADC. Unlike the HT32F65C32F, it comes with two OPAs, a 64KB Flash memory, and 8KB of SRAM. It is suitable for 2-Shunt FOC applications, such as floor fans that require extremely quiet operation.

Other Applications

Both motor drivers are suitable for various applications using BLDC motors. These include

  • electric scooters
  • kitchen ventilators
  • ceiling fans
  • vacuum cleaners
  • pumps
  • dust filter units
