One focus of 3PEAK is the development and supply of ICs covering the entire signal chain. In addition to operational amplifiers, voltage references, analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) and other components, this also includes ICs for bi-directional voltage, current and power measurement.
The TPA626 is designed for bi-directional current and power measurement using a shunt resistor with common-mode bus input voltages from 0V to 36V. This IC can be used for either high-side or low-side measurement. Current, voltage and power measurement values are available via the I2C or the SMBus-compatible interface. The TPA626 requires an supply voltage of 2.7V to 5.5V for normal operation. As the operating voltage is independent from the bus input voltage, power sequencing is not required for the TPA626. This simplifies your design. In addition, by the choice between 16 different I2C addresses, it is possible to use this IC in systems with a large number of measuring points.
The TPA626 offers adjustable averaging and configurable conversion times for its two actual measured variables – the bus and shunt voltage. The integrated SAR ADC provides 16-bit resolution. Depending on the system properties, the correct calculation of the current and power values can be set via a calibration register.
The IC offers continuous or single-shot modes. Here, both voltages or just one of the voltages can be measured.
