Novosense – NSD56 High-/Lowside Driver

Novosense – NSD56 High-/Lowside Driver

Novosense – NSD56 High-/Lowside Driver: The NSD56 high-/lowside drivers from NOVOSENSE are designed for automotive applications and are suitable for typical loads such as solenoid valves, relays and LED strings.

NOVOSENSE Microelectronics develops robust analog and mixed‑signal ICs for sensing, signal processing and power applications.

These ICs typically interface digital systems with physical quantities such as current, voltage, or temperature.

In doing so, NOVOSENSE brings innovation to demanding applications in vehicles, industrial equipment, communication systems and consumer electronics.

Novosense – NSD56 high-/low‑side driver family at a glance

The derivatives of the NSD56XYZ series provide eight channels as configurable high-/low‑side drivers. They differ in how the channel properties are available. The details can be read directly from the part number:

  • NSD56 (Family) X (number of configurable high or low‑side channels) Y (number of fixed high‑side channels) Z (number of fixed low‑side channels) – Q (automotive) 1 (grade)

As mentioned above, typical application areas include driving solenoid valves, switching relay paths and linear or PWM‑controlled LED applications in automotive lighting.

Detailed example: NSD56620

The NSD56620 provides eight channels with a voltage range from 4.5 V to 28 V. Thus it easily supports versatile load drivers in 12 V on‑board networks. Each channel can drive up to 330 mA at 85 °C with all eight channels switched on.

According to the nomenclature introduced above, six of the outputs are configurable, while two are fixed as high‑side drivers.

The IC offers various protection features such as overcurrent and overtemperature protection, open‑load detection (in both ON and OFF states) and more.

Datasheet NSD56620

The NSD56620 is controlled and configured via SPI, while two outputs can also be switched using direct input pins. Further details can be found in the linked comprehensive datasheet.

The following diagram shows a typical application with relays, LEDs, and general loads:
