In our series on the operational amplifiers by 3PEAK, we come to the high-speed operational amplifiers here - a small but interesting set of amplifiers by 3PEAK.

With a bandwidth of 250MHz and a slew rate of 180V/µs, plus low noise values of 6.5nV/√Hz and rail-to-rail I/O, these amplifiers are suitable for many applications where a fast amplifier is needed. For example, processing of high-frequency signals with low voltage or video signals. Applications such as optical networks, tunable lasers, transimpedance amplifiers or barcode scanners can also benefit from these amplifiers.

Applications for the TPH250x

Amplifiers such as the TPH250x series can be used to implement driver stages for high-speed signals like video signals.  The TPH2501, TPH2502 and TPH2504 operational amplifiers are ideal here: Rail-to-rail output amplifiers with high bandwidth as well as high output current, excellent Dg, Dp and low distortion is essential to drive video signals in applications with low supply voltage.

The illustration shows a TPH2501 in circuit for a video line driver. The signal is AC-coupled through C1. R1 and R2 are used to level shift the input and output to achieve the maximum output swing. RF and RG set the AC gain. C2 isolates the virtual ground potential. RT and R3 are the terminating resistors for the line. C1, C2 and C3 are chosen large enough to minimise the drop of the signal.
