The technology of microprocessors with low supply voltage and low power consumption was acquired in the development of 4-bit microcontrollers for watches and electronic price tags and steadily improved. This know-how has now been transferred to the 16 and 32-bit microcontroller.


4-bit Microcontroller

The S1C60 family is based on the same architecture as the S1C62 Family. This series is the CMOS 4-bit single chip microcontroller, integrating the various kinds of peripheral circuits like ROM, RAM, I/O port, LCD driver, and etc. into one chip, centering on a very strong 4-bit CPU core. Of course, it is low voltage and low power consumption technologies that Epson is proud of. This strong architecture is directed towards application-oriented microcontrollers for watches, chronometers and thermometers.

High Performance 4-bit Microcontroller

The S1C63 (E0C63) series is comparable to the S1C60 family in terms of energy consumption and peripherals. In addition, the S1C63 family provides a variety of commands to be run in a high-speed cycle (2-6CPI).

8-bit Microcontroller

Based on the S1C88000, Epson's powerful 8-bit core CPU, the S1C88 family lineup integrates a wide choice of ROM and RAM sizes, LCD drivers, serial ports and other high-performance peripheral circuits into a single chip design. In addition, all devices contain the power-saving, low-voltage (>1.8V) technology Epson devices are known for.

16-bit Microcontroller

Epson's new 16-bit microcontroller features small size and low power consumption equivalent to an 8-bit microcontroller, even with the 16MB address space.

The S1C17 family of original 16-bit MCUs integrate a wide variety of interfaces, allowing connection with multiple sensors and a wealth of peripheral circuits such as an EPD driver, LCD controller and driver supporting low to medium-level resolutions.

The low power consumption results from the following features:

  • RISC architecture enables fast, efficient computing and long rest periods
  • RF converter (resistance-to-frequency converter)-energy-efficient detection of resistance values (sensors for temperature, humidity, ...)
  • LCD driver in sleep mode (display remains in sleep mode condition)

For these reasons, this series is ideal for mobile devices.

Free development environment and on-chip ICE functions are available for product development.

32-bit Microcontroller

The S1C33 family is Epson's original 32-bit RISC CPU. The product incorporates the peripheral functions; rapid DMA, multichannel SIO, programmable timer, PLL and prescaler. Featuring fast operation and extremely low power consumption, this family is suited to Office Automation equipment such as printers and portable equipment like PDAs, cellular phones and toys. In addition, as this family incorporates an A/D converter and PWM timer, it can accomplish digital signal processing.
