ams

ams light sensors are suitable for many applications that are used in the visible light spectrum or the IR range.

Detection of room brightness (ALS - ambient light sensing), color measurement (in the RGB color space), proximity detection (by using IR) and line arrays for "scan" applications are part of the standard portfolio.

In addition to the often used LTD products (light-to-digital), analog LTV (light-to-voltage) and LTF (light- to-frequency) products are still supported for highly dynamic applications (in terms of the light intensity and change of intensity).

ams provides parts for almost every application: mobile device display management (mobile phones, tablets), inpatient sector (TVs, computer monitors, medical diagnostic devices), industrial process Analysis (e.g. turbidity measurement of airborne particles), color control in LED lighting or in the print media.

 

Ambient Light Sensor (ALS)

Due to the special structure of the ALS products (dual-diode implementation) these devices offer a sensor response that is very similar the human eye. The result is that response to change in ambient brightness can be adjusted more easily to the human perception of brightness and this leads to improved user acceptance. A dynamic range of 8,000,000:1 (TSL2572x) or a direct LUX output (TSL4531x) are only 2 of the highlights in this sector.

Ambient Light Sensor & Proximity Detection

The combined ALS + Prox (proximity) products integrate the detection of surrounding brightness and an IR-based approximation detection e.g. for device activation or display / touch deactivation. The high sensitivity and high dynamic range of the sensors make detection in the near field behind dark glass and also over long distances possible. ams offers finished modules with IR diode (TMD27xx) and solutions with built-in IR LED driver (TSL27xx) to be as flexible as possible for many law enforcement requirements.

Color Sensor

ams colour sensors are perfectly suited to accurate colour determination. Up to 4 colour channels (RGBC - red / green / blue / clear) are available. For applications such as pulsed LED lights some products have a synchronization input to enable a measurement that is appropriate to the PWM signal of the LED driver. With IR filters, the influence of unwanted light sources in the environment is minimized (sunlight, other lights).

Color Sensor & Proximity Detection

In addition to pure colour sensors, ams also offers the combination with a built-in IR proximity sensor similar to the ALS products. Due to the addition of the IR LED proximity can be seen next to the colour determination.

Gesture, Color & Proximity Detection

The Gesture product family features advanced Gesture detection, Proximity Detection, Digital Ambient Light Sensing (ALS), Color Sensing (RGBC), and optical pattern generation/transmission for Barcode broadcast. The IR Gesture sensor modules provide a highly integrated solution offering five essential functions for maximizing the end user experience in advanced communications and consumer electronics enabling a coherent display and touchless interface. Gesture detection utilizes four directional photodiodes to sense IR energy (sourced by the integrated LED) to convert physical motion information (i.e. velocity, direction and distance) to digital information. The Gesture engine incorporates a wide range of device gesture requirements and accurate sensing with minimized power consumption and noise through adjustable IR LED timing and enhanced gesture algorithms.

Light-to-Frequency Sensors

For applications that require further analog processing of the sensor signal or where the converter accuracy of the LTD sensors is not sufficient, ams offers LTF (light-to-frequency) products. The frequency of the issued square wave signal is linearly proportional to the light intensity.

In applications where the conversion rate of LTD (light-to-digital) is not sufficient, ams LTV (light-to-voltage) sensors will be suitable. Linear Array Sensors

ams offers diverse products in the Linear Sensor product range with different pixel sizes (resolution, dpi) from 64 pixels to 1536 pixel. The sensors provide an analog output signal which can be read directly with an ADC for further high-speed processing. Applications in the printer/scanner range (OCR or leaf edge detection) can be implemented very well, but also the acquisition of spectra in low-cost spectrometers is possible.

Proximity Detection Sensors

ams proximity sensors integrate the IR sensor, the control logic for the IR LED and an integrated IR LED. Due to flexible adjustment of the IR LED current and pulse scheme and due to the high dynamic range of the IR photo-diodes, the presence of objects can be adapted to almost any ambient conditions.

Upto 16 bit 4-Channel Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) with I²C Control / Output. The IC processes via charge-balance method and converts lowest photo-currents at high accuracy. Its full-scale range can be customized to specific applications. Sensitivity of 20 fA/LSB at a dynamic of 1 to 1,000,000. The IC is temperature compensated and features the possibility of external synchronization.

AS89020

4-channel resistive analog current integrator, every channel is addressable and programmable in 17 levels - 0,1 MΩ to 102,4 MΩ, 11,7 nA to 12 μA, dynamic range 60 dB, resolution A/D conversion internally 12 bit at a conversion time of 1 μs per channel, serial digital output via SPI, very low power consumption and temperature compensation on chip.
