Epson’s RX8900 real-time clock modules achieve high accuracy over the industrial temperature range

Munich, May 23, 2018 – Epson Europe Electronics GmbH presents the real-time clock module RX8900.

Epson’s RX8900 Real-Time Clock (RTC) with a supply voltage of 2.5-5.5 V is offered in a small sized package (3.2 x 2.5 x 1.0 mm3 or 10.1 x 7.4 x 3.3 mm3). The package includes an IC and crystal with a factory-calibrated Digitally Temperature-Compensated Crystal Oscillator (DTXO). RX8900

Due to the usage of DTCXO technology compensating not only  the temperature dependency but as well the initial tolerance and circuit variations, a high accuracy of ±3.4 ppm over the industrial temperature range -40 to +85 °C (9 s/mo.) can be achieved. This high accuracy is essential for precise time keeping, as required by eMeters, lighting, and other industrial or outdoor applications.

To keep the time counter running even at main power failure, Epson’s RX8900 can detect the loss of main power source and automatically switch to a backup supply from a battery or supercapacitor with a supply voltage of 1.6-5.5 V.
